Looking for a picnic food table setup that’s just as cute as the food you’re serving? Think gingham checks, baskets of bread and little jars with forks tied to the sides.
These ideas range from full sandwich buffets to simple snack boards and pretty places to sit.
You can keep it simple or go all out. Start with what you want to serve, then pick a few details you love.
A bunch of flowers or colorful fruit might be all your table needs!
Picnic Table Ideas Worth Saving
stacked crates and fruit
We’re starting off strong with this super cute crate display. I love the little white stands of strawberries above the boxes of yellow fruit and purple grapes.
Try arranging your serving trays across sturdy crates, then add flowers at either end. The round lanterns overhead are such a pretty finishing touch.
red gingham and daisies
How cute is this red-and-white table? The checked jar lids match the tablecloth, with a big bunch of daisies beside them.
If you want to follow this look, group your jars around a basket and keep the dishes white. There’s already plenty of color here.
long sandwiches and fruit cups
If you’re feeding a group, this spread gives you plenty of serving ideas. Long sandwiches run across the front while individual fruit cups sit together on the left.
The smaller rolls get their own raised platter.

I’d borrow the fruit cups for a picnic buffet. Put a tray beside them for the used lids so they don’t end up scattered across your table.
watermelon flower displays
I am obsessed with how playful this centerpiece looks. Tall flowers rise out of watermelon halves, with grapes and sliced citrus tucked around the bottom.
For your own version, keep the flower display separate from fruit intended for eating. Little vases behind the melon halves could give you a similar look without putting flower stems into the food.
plaid and burger toppings
This is such a fun way to set out a burger spread. The orange, yellow and green plaid looks lovely with the sunflowers at the back.
Keep lettuce, sliced tomatoes and onion together on a separate tray like this one. I love that the toppings get their own little spot rather than being squeezed between all the bowls.
baskets and little tarts
If you love baskets, this one may be your favorite. There are bread rolls, strawberries, cheese and rows of little tarts, all arranged at different heights.
The beige checks and leafy branches are so pretty together. Try one raised shelf at the back of your table to make room for another basket.
a basket full of bread
Who wouldn’t want a little of everything from this basket? Long loaves stand at the back while smaller slices fill the front.
The golden topped bread on the right looks especially good.
Place a small dipping bowl in the middle of your own bread basket. Keep a pair of serving tongs nearby so everyone can choose a slice.
red white and blue barbecue
Go all out with this red, white and blue barbecue table. The flags and striped bunting carry the theme above a spread of burgers, ribs, corn and sides.
I’d keep the plain red tablecloth if you’re trying this idea. You don’t need another pattern underneath all that food.
pink cups and lemon slices
How adorable is this little drink station? The pink cups sit above a pale yellow drink, surrounded by lemon slices, raspberries and mint.
The pink checked base is a favorite detail too. Add a separate garnish tray beside your dispenser if yours doesn’t have a compartment on top.
cheese and fruit boards
Don’t want to put together a whole buffet? No problem! Try a board with cheese, crackers, nuts and colorful fruit like this one.
I love the fan of crackers at the front and the little bowl tucked into the middle. Leave yourself a clear corner for a serving knife.
open picnic boxes
This is one of my favorite ideas for keeping different foods together. The open boxes hold smaller containers of wraps, sandwiches, strawberries and golden tarts.
You could give each box a different mix or group similar foods together. Keep the lids handy so you can cover the food between servings.
a separate drinks corner
Running out of room on your food table? Give the drinks their own spot.
This setup groups bottles in large tubs, with one raised bucket and white flowers behind it.
Try setting your drinks beside the table rather than at the end of the food line. That leaves a little more room for people coming back for another bottle.
jar flowers and a simple runner
Don’t want to go overboard with the decorations? This simple table is for you.
A tan fringed runner, jars of flowers and white plates are all that’s on it so far.
Keep the little flower sprigs on the plates for the initial setting, then move them aside when it’s time to serve.
round sandwich platters
The sandwich fans are going to love this! Rolls circle the front board while more platters sit on raised rounds farther back. There’s also a big salad bowl tucked beside the stacked plates.
Arrange your sandwiches with the cut sides facing out if you want the fillings to show. The white tablecloth keeps this busy spread looking lovely.
rainbow vegetables and pink checks
I love how colorful this garden buffet is. Rows of cucumber, carrots and peppers fill the front tray, with sandwiches, fruit and bowls of salad behind them.
The pink gingham is so cute underneath. Try lining up your vegetable sticks by color to borrow that same detail.
a little dessert tower
If you want a smaller sweet display, this one is for you. Frosted cupcakes fill the middle tier while macarons and fruit share the bottom. A few more treats sit at the top.
I am in love with the scalloped plates and gold-colored handle. Keep the flowers beside the stand so the desserts have their own space.
chicken and fries to share
Not every picnic needs flowers and matching plates. This open box of fried chicken and fries makes the food the whole focus, with little sauce pots along the top.
Set out napkins and individual plates beside a sharing box like this. You could keep the sides in their own containers, just as they are here.
low table and flower baskets
How pretty is this low picnic table? Pale cushions surround it, with white plates, draped napkins and bowls of grapes on top.
The flower-filled baskets beside the seats are adorable.

Try small flower arrangements between the place settings if you want this same look. I’d choose unlit candles or battery-operated versions around the baskets and trailing greenery.
salad jars with tied forks
These little salad jars are such a cute serving idea. Each one has a fork tied to the side and a round label on the lid.
You could use the labels to name each salad so nobody has to guess what’s inside. Keep the jars chilled until serving, then set them beside your sandwiches.
orange flowers and overhead lights
Last but definitely not least, we have this gorgeous flower-filled picnic table. I love the orange and pink blooms with the mustard-colored napkins.
Little pumpkins and pinecones sit between the place settings.
String lights above the table finish the look. Save this one if you want your picnic to have a little fall color without covering every inch in decorations.
