20 Ideas for Centerpieces Without Flowers, With a Few Looks to Adapt

Looking for centerpieces without flowers that still give your table something pretty to show off? Lemons, candles, little pumpkins and leafy branches give you plenty to work with.

You can keep things simple or go all out with a tall feather arrangement.

A few of these pictures include flowers or show a project in progress. I’ve pointed those out below, with suggestions for flower-free versions rather than pretending every arrangement is already there.

Table centerpiece ideas worth saving

a bright lemon ring

How fun is this lemon arrangement? The bright yellow fruit forms a ring above a white plate, with supporting sticks still visible across the middle.

This picture shows the project being assembled rather than a finished centerpiece.

For a simpler take, arrange lemons directly around the edge of a shallow platter. You’ll get that same cheerful color without the raised structure.

candles on a mirrored tray

I am obsessed with this candle grouping. The tall ivory tapers and little tea lights look so pretty reflected in the mirrored tray.

Try holders at different heights to follow this look. Keep the candles upright and leave space between the flames and anything nearby.

leafy sprigs and little name clips

Don’t want to go overboard with the table decor? This leafy place setting is such a lovely starting point.

A narrow green sprig sits on the plate with a little name clip across it.

The picture focuses on a place setting rather than a centerpiece. To carry the idea into the middle of your table, try a loose line of similar leafy branches.

upright logs and a mossy base

The pale bark and green moss are my favorite parts of this arrangement. Upright logs stand at different heights, with small candles around the base.

There’s a large white flower near the top, so this isn’t a flower-free example as shown. For your version, leave out the bloom and use just the logs and greenery.

Battery-operated candles would keep flames away from the moss.

a lantern over stacked books

Calling all book lovers, how cute is this? A black lantern sits on a stack of worn-looking books, with a round bark-edged base underneath.

The pictured arrangement includes tiny white flowers. Skip those for a flower-free version and keep a few leafy sprigs around the books instead.

I’d choose an LED candle for the lantern.

pumpkins down the table

We have so many pretty colors here! Orange, cream and dark green pumpkins fill the middle of a neutral runner.

The striped and speckled ones may just be my favorites.

Mix larger pumpkins with little gourds instead of choosing all the same size. Let them sit in a loose cluster down the table.

a shallow bowl with candlelight

If you are looking for something small, this one is for you. Four tea lights sit among pale and brown pebbles in a shallow bowl of water.

To try a similar arrangement, choose candles specifically designed to float rather than assuming ordinary tea lights will work in water.

bare branches and pinecones

I love the tall bare branches above this low bowl of greenery. The pinecones tucked around the bottom are so pretty.

This arrangement also has tan flower-shaped accents, so it needs a small change for a strictly flower-free table. Leave those out and let the pinecones fill the spaces instead.

green plants in gray pots

This is actually one of my favorite ideas on the list. The little gray pots and larger central planter look so cute together, especially with all those different leaf shapes.

Try grouping your own potted herbs down the table. Keep the smaller ones near the place settings if you want to follow this layout.

pears in a long trough

Who needs a big bouquet when pears look this pretty? Green pears and red-blushed apples fill a long, narrow trough, with leafy sprigs tucked between them.

I’d keep the fruit as the main detail here. A few branches around the edges are plenty.

glowing jars with greenery

How cute are these glowing jars? Each one has tiny lights inside and a brown bow around the neck.

The taller leafy stems give the little trio some extra height.

There are also small white bud-like clusters among the leaves. For an unambiguously flower-free version, choose plain leafy stems and battery-powered string lights.

a long succulent arrangement

Don’t want to add candles or fruit? No problem!

This long, low arrangement is filled with succulents, from pointed green rosettes to broad pale leaves.

The different shapes are what make it so interesting. Try a narrow planter if you want to leave room for plates on either side.

a rope-wrapped ring in progress

This one is a work in progress rather than a finished table display. Thick pale cord is being wrapped around a straw-colored ring, with shells and greenery lying nearby.

For a coastal centerpiece inspired by it, you could place a finished rope-wrapped ring flat on a tray and arrange shells around it. That would be your own variation, not the finished result shown here.

colorful ornaments in a tall vase

I am obsessed with all the ornament colors here. Red, green, blue and gold-colored baubles fill the tall clear vessel beneath a cream pillar candle.

For your version, use a flameless pillar rather than copying the lit candle nestled above the ornaments. You can keep the sparkle without an open flame beside the decorations.

a tall white feather fan

If you are looking for a true eye-catcher, then this one is for you. A big fan of white feathers spreads out from a tall, slim clear vase.

The arrangement is being held up here rather than shown on a table. If you try it as a centerpiece, choose a stable vase and check that the feathers won’t crowd nearby guests.

leaf-filled bottles and white tapers

I love how you can see the leafy stems through these clear bottles. The white tapers and little brown bows keep the rest of the arrangement simple.

Both bottles sit on one round wood slice. For a similar display, I’d use securely fitted flameless tapers, especially with the cord tied around the necks.

pale stems and ribbon bows

These little bottles are so pretty with their oversized white bows. The arrangements mix feathery grasses, pale leaves and rounded dried-looking accents.

If you want to avoid flowers entirely, ask for grasses and leaves only. Keep the cream and beige palette to get a similar look.

artichokes and little purple fruits

This is such a fun change from a vase in the middle of the table. Large green artichokes sit beside small purple fruits and a green pear.

I especially love the green and purple together. Try arranging your produce on a low platter if you’d rather not place it directly on the tablecloth.

festive teacup arrangements

How adorable are these oversized teacups? Red candles rise above frosted-looking greenery, pink berry-like accents and shiny ornaments.

The cups have a floral pattern, but there isn’t a fresh bouquet in them. Choose plain cups if you want to avoid flower motifs too.

Use flameless candles to keep the surrounding decorations away from a flame.

big green leaves and a pale plume

Last but definitely not least, we have this tall leafy arrangement. I love the big split leaves beside that pale feathery plume.

The clear vase lets the long stems and winding twigs show through.

For a version with foliage only, leave out the plume and keep the broad green leaves. This taller look would be lovely on an entry table.
